Letter: Sales tax exemptions

March 22, 2014

Though I lean toward voting for the public safety sales tax, I certainly have not made my mind up. I will be considering the following prior to marking my ballot.

You apparently chose to overlook the Oregonians' free ride in your March 7 editorial (tinyurl.com/TCH-Tax). "Those from outside Benton County who come here to make purchases would help fund the system as well."

I would like to know the dollar amount lost each year by them showing their Oregon driver's license. I admit it gripes me every time it happens as I wait to pay for my purchase. I'm certainly aware of the claim there would be fewer sales if they paid sales tax. I personally do not believe it would have that big of an impact.
