PREP SOFTBALL: Kamiakin loses on road in Pendleton

Payton Hergert hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to power Pendleton past Kamiakin 8-5 in nonleague play Friday in Pendleton.

Cylie Richards went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Kamiakin (0-1), which will play in the Richland Tournament today against Lake City and Coeur d’Alene.

Ferris 9, Kennewick 2: Julissa Gonzales had two hits for the Lions (0-1), but it wasn’t enough as Ferris used two big innings to pick up the win in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader in Spokane.

In the second game, Ferris was leading 5-4 at the end of three innings when the game was called because of darkness.
