By the Tri-City HeraldMarch 21, 2014

Hannah Sams pounded out six hits and eight RBIs on the strength of three doubles and a pair of home runs as Columbia Basin College earned an NWAACC East sweep of Blue Mountain on Friday in Pendleton.

The Hawks took the opener 7-6 and swung for the fences in a five-inning 11-1 win in Game 2.

“Sams had a career day. She hit the ball really well. Bailey (Walthers) did a good job, too, getting on base almost every time,” Hawks coach Adrian Ochoa said. “Gabby Meza threw great in Game 2, but the day definitely belonged to Hannah.

“It was a good way to start East Region play.”

Walthers went 4-for-4 in the nightcap with two doubles and two RBIs.
