Odd smell forces evacuation at Prosser High

Tri-City HeraldMarch 18, 2014

— Prosser High School was briefly evacuated Tuesday afternoon and seven people were taken to a hospital because of a chemical smell in one of the school’s restrooms.

The smell was detected shortly after 1 p.m. and officials evacuated the school for about 20 minutes before students returned to classes, said Mary Snitily, assistant superintendent for the district.

Four students and three staff members were taken to Prosser Memorial Hospital as a precaution, Snitily said. They were checked and later released.

She said the odor was not a gas leak but they are working to figure out what caused the smell.

School officials expect a normal class schedule for the rest of the week.
