Kennewick's public works director is stepping down as the head of the department in preparation for retiring in March 2015.

Peter Beaudry will spend the next year working on special city-wide projects and providing support during the transition.

The city hired Cary Roe as the new public works director starting April 2.

Roe is Federal Way's director of parks, public works and emergency management. He has worked there for more than 20 years and is a registered Professional Engineer.

"Cary will be able to continue moving the public works department forward as we have tremendous opportunities and challenges in the upcoming biennium," Marie Mosley, Kennewick city manager, said in a statement.
