Kennewick man arrested on assault charges, girlfriend hospitalized

— A Kennewick woman had “substantial injuries” after police say her boyfriend assaulted her at an apartment complex on Metaline Avenue.

Police arrested Michael Anthony Lorenzi Jr., 33, and booked him into Benton County jail on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Officers were called to the apartment on March 8 after the 35-year-old woman called her sister and was incoherent, police said. The sister could hear yelling in the background.

When officers arrived, the woman was having difficulty speaking, police said. She was taken to Trios Health in Kennewick where hospital staff determined she was having a stroke.

Police say the woman doesn’t have any preexisting medical conditions that could cause a stroke.

Investigators interviewed Lorenzi before arresting him, police said. The woman is in “fair” condition at Trios.
