MILTON-FREEWATER -- Four people were injured in a two-car accident at 6:40 a.m. Sunday on Highway 12 at Larrabee Road, one mile east of Touchet.

Jose L. Sosa, 30, of Milton-Freewater, was driving his black 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo east on Highway 12 when Washington State Patrol officers say he crossed the center line. Sosa's car sideswiped a 1987 Honda Accord driven west on the highway by Mark A. Gomes, 38, also of Milton-Freewater, causing the car to leave the roadway and roll.

Two passengers in the Honda Accord, Dawn M. Woods-Gomes, 42, of Milton-Freewater, and Nicole R. Bennett-Gomes, 15, of College Place, were also injured, officers said.

The two drivers and passengers were taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. The nursing supervisor reported Gomes was in satisfactory condition late Sunday afternoon and Woods-Gomes was treated and released. No information was available about the condition of Sosa or Bennett-Gomes.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed to the Kennewick, the patrol said.

Officers said drugs or alcohol could be involved. The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
