TOPPENISH -- The driver who fled after causing an accident that injured a woman Saturday evening was arrested a short time later, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Rafael R. Rodriguez, 21, of Toppenish, was driving south in the area of 2800 N. Meyers Road at about 6:15 p.m., when his 2004 Mazda 626 crossed the centerline and struck a northbound car driven by Imelda M. Ramirez, 46, of Toppenish, the patrol said in a news release.

The collision destroyed Rodriquez's car and the 2008 Toyota Camry driven by Ramirez.

Ramirez was taken to Toppenish Community Hospital. Her condition was not available Sunday afternoon.

The state patrol said Rodriguez fled the accident but was apprehended.

Intoxicants played a role in the accident, the patrol said.
