WHL: Americans shut out in Kelowna

March 9, 2014

Kelowna goalie Jordon Cooke helped the host Rockets hand the Tri-City Americans a 7-0 setback Saturday at Prospera Place.

Despite the loss, the Americans (28-32-3-5, 64 points) need just one point — either from themselves or a loss by Prince George — to secure a playoff spot for the 11th consecutive season.

The Cougars, who trail Tri-City by four points for the final Western Conference playoff spot, dropped an 8-0 game to Spokane on Saturday and have just two games remaining.

The Americans have four games left.

The Western Conference-leading Rockets (54-10-0-4, 112 points) converted on all four of their power plays and had seven different players score goals to sweep the four-game season series with the Americans.

Rookie Evan Sarthou finished with 39 saves for Tri-City.
