Swimming: Former Hanford standout wins NAIA national titles

March 7, 2014

Hanford High School graduate Christine Tixier, swimming for Biola, won two women’s titles at the NAIA swimming championships.

Tixier finished the 200 IM on Thursday night in 2 minutes, 4.48 seconds, less than half of a second off the NAIA record.

On Friday Tixier, seeded first in the 100 butterfly, was trailing by almost a whole body length after 50 meters. But she rallied to not only win, but shattered her own NAIA record.

Tixier, now a three-time champion in this event, finished in 54.36 seconds — beating her old mark of 54.60.

Tixier is also seeded No. 1 in Saturday’s 200 butterfly.
