Food for Thought: Dine and tour Columbia, Snake rivers on April 18-27

If you've always wanted to take a cruise and watch the scenery slip by as you dine, your chance is coming this spring. And you won't have to leave town to board the ship.

In April, a ship from Portland Spirit, a cruise line combining boat tours and fine dining, will be in the Tri-Cities for tours up and down the Columbia and Snake rivers.

The Columbia Gorge, an authentic 499-passenger sternwheeler, will be churning through Mid-Columbia waters from April 18-27.

The ship is a replica of the historic Bailey Gatzert, which operated on the Columbia from the 1890s to the 1920s.

Cruises vary in length from two to more than five hours. Passengers can choose from a brunch, lunch or dinner cruise featuring Northwest cuisine prepared fresh in the onboard galley.

Costs range from $37 to $88 for adults, depending on the length of the cruise. Go just for the sights, no meal, and tickets cost $27.

Children's tickets range from $20 to $80.

Vegetarian classes

Learn what it means to eat a vegetarian diet and how to create a plant-based menu at a series of classes running from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 20, and 27 and April 3 at the Riverview Seventh-day Adventist Church, 605 N. Road 36, Pasco.
