Letter: Poaching Hanford elk looks like a bargain

March 4, 2014

After many years of elk hunting without getting one, I decided to give up. That was until I realized I can shoot a trophy elk on the Hanford nuclear reservation for $6,000, spend no jail time and keep my hunting rights and my Hanford job.

Considering the amount of time and money I have invested in elk hunting, that is an absolute bargain.

Of course it's not really hunting. Hunting takes skill, patience and determination, which apparently the two poachers and I have none. But that's OK. Now I can simply roll up to an elk in a restricted area, that has no fear of man, and pop him between the eyes. Something I can really and be proud of.
