Letter: Printed notice to homosexuals clearer than a symbol

March 4, 2014

There was a suggestion recently that a symbol be used to alert people of different sexual orientation about the hateful and judgmental position of storekeepers. Looking at people's misinterpretation of political cartoons, I'm thinking a clearly worded printed statement might be better. I suggest this one:

This establishment is owned and operated by a person who is clearly your moral superior and holier than you are. In spite of the fact that Jesus made no recorded mention of homosexuality and showed repeated tolerance of others, I think that "judge not that ye be not judged" stuff is obviously for weak sisters and doesn't apply to me.

If Jesus were to show up today in our circumstances and say "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone," you'd better duck, because I'm flinging.

If you want to give your money to a homophobe who regards you with less respect than he does dog droppings and is convinced he is morally superior to Jesus Christ and certainly to you, please do come on in.
