— Officials at Enterprise Middle School in West Richland sent a letter home with students Monday about the death of a 13-year-old classmate who died Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Principal Jennifer Klauss said in the letter to parents that students and faculty will truly miss Kayden Burns.

“Kayden was a friend to many students at our school and was involved in athletics and activities,” she wrote. “His ever-present smile and positive attitude made him a joy to be around.”

Police and emergency officials with Benton Fire District 4 were called to his home on North 60th Avenue about 7 p.m. Saturday, said police.

The Richland School District is offering additional counseling services at Enterprise and Tapteal Elementary School.
