The Richland High boys basketball team got what amounts to a dream draw Sunday when the Class 4A state tournament matchups were announced the Washington Interscholastic Activities Assocation in Renton.

Richland (24-0) will face Wenatchee, a former CBBN foe, at 9 p.m. Thursday at the Tacoma Dome in the first round of the state tournament.

If the Bombers win, they will face the winner of the Gonzaga Prep vs. Todd Beamer game at 9 p.m. Friday.

The other top two teams in the state — Jackson and Garfield — are on the other side of the bracket and could meet in a dynamic semifinal at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

In Class 3A, the Sunnyside (21-3) girls will play Bellevue at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a first round matchup. The winner of that will likely play the state’s consensus top team in Cleveland in a 7:15 p.m. semifinal Friday.

In Class 1A, Mabton plays Blaine at 9 p.m. Thursday in the SunDome in Yakima in the first round. The state favorite — Cashmere — is on the opposite side of the bracket. The Vikings advanced to state after upsetting defending champion Brewster in a regional game Friday.
