OTHELLO -- Three Clarkston residents were injured in a single-car accident near Othello in which the car rolled onto a golf course, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Steven M. Sumpter, 25, swerved to avoid another vehicle while approaching the merging of a passing lane at 4:30 p.m. Saturday while driving northbound on Highway 17, six miles north of Othello, WSP said. He lost control of the 2004 Chevrolet Aveo he was driving, causing the car to roll and come to rest on the Sage Hills golf course, WSP said.

Sumpter, Margalena Padilla, 35, and Tatiana C. Padilla, 8, were taken to Samaritan hospital in Moses Lake.

Margalena Padilla was airlifted there.

Sumpter was charged with second-degree negligent driving, WSP said.

All three people were wearing seat belts, WSP said.
