Author Patricia Briggs uses familiar Tri-City locations in her best-selling novels. Her latest book pits Kennewick Volkswagen mechanic Mercedes Thompson against a legendary evil. The garage that her main character owns and operates is based on one Briggs once frequented, which now is known as The Bug Shack.

Patricia Briggs will sign copies of her books starting at 6 p.m. March 11 at Hastings bookstore in Richland.

Briggs, a Tri-City resident, is a New York Times best-selling fantasy author. Her latest installment in the Mercy Thompson series is titled Night Broken.

The bookstore is at 1425 George Washington Way.
