Richland stabbing suspect trial postponed

A Richland man charged with fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend 30 times had his trial postponed three weeks.

Lawrence A. Miller is set to face a Benton County Superior Court jury on March 31.

The 34-year-old is charged with second-degree murder with domestic violence for allegedly killing Rebeca Vandeventer on Sept. 11 while her three children were in the apartment.

The charge includes four aggravating circumstances: deliberate cruelty, aggravated domestic violence, a destructive and foreseeable impact on others and excessive injuries.

Vandeventer and Miller reportedly shared the Dos Palos Court apartment, even though they'd recently broken up.

Miller was upset that Vandeventer wouldn't stop seeing another man, and used a 4- to 6-inch knife from a kitchen drawer to kill her during a bloody fight, court documents said.

Her 8-year-old son went to a neighbor's home to get help after Miller left. Miller turned himself in at the Richland Police Department that same night.
