Moses Lake businessman eyes 13th District seat

MOSES LAKE -- Tom Dent, a Moses Lake businessman, announced Tuesday that he is running for a state 13th District House seat.

It's yet another ripple in the wake created in the wake of U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings's retirement announcement.

After state Sen. Janea Holmquist Newbry, R-Moses Lake, said she'd seek Hastings' congressional seat, state Rep. Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, announced her intentions to run for Holmquist Newbry's seat in the state Senate.

Dent, the former chairman of the Grant County Republican Party, is now campaigning for Warnick's 13th District seat.

The 13th District includes most of Kittitas, Grant and Lincoln counties, along with a small portion of northern Yakima County.

A commercial pilot with a crop-dusting business, Dent has worked in the agricultural sector for decades, including managing his own small ranch.
