Letter: Hanford costs recalculated

In Feb. 20's lead story, "New Hanford cleanup price tag: $113.6 billion," reported, "If the cost were spread evenly among everyone living in the United States today, each person would have to come up with $359."

The article conveniently underplayed the fact that the $359 would need to be paid between now and 2060 (fourth paragraph). The price tag would thus come to $12.38 per person per year, or a little over $1.03 per person per month.

As Mark Twain quoted Benjamin Disraeli, "lies, damn lies and statistics."
