Driver accidentally hits gas pedal, crashes into Pasco McDonald's

February 23, 2014

— The driver of an SUV ended up crashing through the doorway of a Pasco McDonald’s when she accidentally hit the gas pedal while parking.

No one was injured in the 6:23 p.m. incident at the Court Street and 20th Avenue restaurant.

An eyewitness told the Herald that a 2-year-old had been in front of the door just seconds earlier, though Pasco police and restaurant management couldn’t confirm that report.

Sgt. Brad Gregory said it was a 39-year-old Pasco woman who was behind the wheel of a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer.

“She just pulled up and her foot slipped off the brake and pushed on the gas,” Gregory said. The SUV then “jumped up onto the sidewalk and slammed into the door.”

Gregory said customers at the restaurant weren’t able to use the women’s bathroom because the wreckage blocked the door.

The driver was not cited since she didn’t do anything criminally wrong. Gregory said it will be a civil matter between her and McDonald’s.
