Basketball: CBC men end regular season on high note

CBC MEN 103, WALLA WALLA 90: Steven Walter scored a game-high 37 points as the Columbia Basin College men ended a three-game losing streak with a road victory at Walla Walla on Saturday.

The Hawks (16-10 overall, 9-5 East) finish the regular season as the East’s No. 3 seed, and they will open the NWAACC Basketball Championships at the Toyota Center at 4 p.m. Saturday against either Skagit Valley or Whatcom.

Walla Walla women 69, CBC 57: The Hawks finished the East Region schedule on a bit of a sour note, losing on the road to the Warriors.

It was the Hawks’ first East Region loss of the season.

However, CBC still enters the NWAACC Basketball Championships as the top seed in the East. The Hawks (23-4 overall, 13-1 East) will open tournament play at 8 p.m. Saturday against the North No. 4 team, Peninsula (11-12, 8-5 North), in the Toyota Center.

Bailey Nygaard scored 17 points, while Jessica Siler added 12 points and 11 rebounds, as Walla Walla snapped CBC’s 17-game win streak.
