Bowling fundraiser set Feb. 24-March 1

By the Herald staffFebruary 20, 2014

There will be some out-of-this-world bowling at Spare Time Lanes & Arcade in Kennewick from Feb. 24-March 1.

Those are the dates for the Galaxy Bowl, the 17th annual Junior Achievement bowling fundraiser.

The nonprofit Junior Achievement works to educate students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through hands-on programs.

The event usually attracts about 2,000 adult Junior Achievement supporters and raises about $300,000. Proceeds are used to serve more than 10,000 students in Benton, Franklin and Walla Walla counties.

Bowlers who raise the most in pledges will be eligible to win prizes ranging from a $500 Costco gift certificate to a stay at a luxury resort. Teams in the best cosmic-inspired costumes can win a pizza party.

Each team has five bowlers with an individual goal to raise $100, or $500 per team. Space is limited to 360 teams. The registration fee is $60 per team and covers two hours of bowling, shoes and ball rental. Preregistration is required.

There will also be 15 silent auctions, one per bowling shift. There also will be an auction on eBay that runs Saturday through March 3.

To sign up to bowl, or for more information on the event and the online auction, go to tri-cities.ja.org or call 783-7222.
