Boys basketball: Kennewick hammers Rogers to advance

February 18, 2014

The Kennewick boys basketball team was clicking offensively, cruising to an 87-61 victory Tuesday in a Class 3A District 5/8 tournament elimination game against visiting Rogers of Spokane.

The Lions (13-8) jumped out to a 45-17 halftime lead, shooting a blistering 30-of-54 (56 percent) for the game.

“We were able to pressure them and get some turnovers which made some nice transition buckets,” Kennewick coach Bradyn Leyde said. “It was a good team effort. Everyone shared the basketball, and the guy with the hot hand got it.”

Mitchel Mueller had the hottest of hands, finishing with 26 points for the Lions, while Alex Garcia added 15.

With Kamiakin’s loss, Kennewick now gets to host a semifinal Friday against Shadle Park of Spokane.
