BOYS BASKETBALL: Hanford tops Sunnyside to earn district berth

Drew Heid scored 19 points to lead five Hanford players in double figures as the Falcons earned a spot in today’s Class 3A District 5/8 tournament with an 82-55 road win Monday at Sunnyside.

Jacob Sivonen added 15 points and 14 rebounds for Hanford, which will travel to Spokane to face University at 8 p.m. today.

The Falcons shot 52 percent (25-for-48), and Ben Seaman hit four 3-pointers for 13 points. Kendall Watson also chipped in 13 points and 11 assists.

Grandview 74, Wapato 67: Joey Saenz hit seven 3-pointers for a game-high 23 points, and Isaiah Gonzales chipped in 21 points and 14 rebounds as the Greyhounds beat the visiting Wolves in the Class 2A District 5/6 tournament semifinals.

Grandview took a 22-13 first-quarter lead and stayed in control from there.

The Greyhounds will play Ephrata for the District 5/6 tournament championship at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sunnyside High School. Wapato will face East Valley at 5 p.m.
