Tri-City HeraldFebruary 15, 2014

Two Tri-City area residents were killed Saturday in a wreck on Highway 14 east of Wishram in Klickitat County.

Khamphouk K. Phongsa, 51, of Richland, and Adali F. Mendoza, 53, of Burbank, died at the scene, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Phongsa was driving a 2007 Subaru Impreza west on the highway about 12:40 p.m., the patrol reported. Mendoza was a passenger.

The Subaru crossed the eastbound lanes and left the roadway to the south, traveling about 100 feet down a steep embankment, overturning and coming to a rest against a fence, the state patrol said. Both men were buckled up.

The state patrol said alcohol and drugs weren't involved. The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
