Girls basketball: Kennewick eliminates Southridge

Kennewick 67, Southridge 47: Zoey Garcia scored 21 points and Jayln Brasher-Norwood added 19 as the Lions eliminated the host Suns in a Class 3A District 5/8 tournament play-in game Friday.

The win ends an eight-game losing streak stretching back to Jan. 11, when Kennewick topped Southridge 45-41.

With the victory, Kennewick will play at University High (7-13) in the first round of the District 5/8 tournament in another elimination game in Spokane.

Amanda Saunders’ 12 points led Southridge, while Jaid Harris added 11.

Sunnyside 58, Moses Lake 48: Emilee Maldonado’s 17 points led the Grizzlies to a CBBN victory over the visiting Chiefs.

Jordan Rodriguez added 13 for Sunnyside, which has already clinched the No. 1 seed to the District 5/8 tournament Tuesday. The Grizzlies will host North Central.
