Americans comeback comes up short in Seattle

The Seattle Thunderbirds let a 3-0 lead evaporate in the third period, but Russell Maxwell scored the game-winner with 26 seconds left in regulation as the Thunderbirds held on to beat the Tri-City Americans 4-3 on Friday at ShoWare Center in Kent.

Trailing 3-0 in the third, the Americans got a short-handed goal from Lucas Nickles at 9:25, a power-play goal by Parker Bowles at 15:53, and Beau McCue tied the score at 3-3 with a goal at 17:15.

Eric Comrie finished with 21 saves for the Americans.

Sitting eighth in the Western Conference, the Americans (27-25-3-3, 60 points) kept their five-point lead over ninth-place Prince George, which lost to Kelowna on Friday.

Justin Hickman, Keegan Kolesar and Ethan Bear also scored for Seattle (36-17-2-3, 77 points), which is fourth in the Western Conference. Shea Theodore chipped in three assists for the T-birds.
