The hood of a West Richland driver's car flew up Thursday and shattered her windshield, injuring her, the Washington State Patrol said.

Robin Lee Howard-Haight, 49, of West Richland, was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue south at 11:24 a.m. on Interstate 82 about 13 miles south of Ellensburg, the state patrol said.

After the hood flew up, Howard-Haight had to pull off to the left shoulder of the highway, the state patrol said.

She was taken to Kittitas Valley Healthcare in Ellensburg with unknown injuries.

The state patrol said she would be cited for having defective equipment.
