Sunday presentation on mental illness in Richland

A presentation on mental illness and suicide prevention is set for 7 p.m. Sunday in the Shalom United Church of Christ's Fellowship Hall, 505 McMurray St., Richland.

Gordon Bopp will speak on mental health concerns in the community and current state legislation to help remedy them. Gordon is the Washington state chapter president of the National Alliance of Mental Illness.

Kristi Haynes, Benton-Franklin Field Coordinator for the Youth Suicide Prevention Program, also will speak about suicide prevention, including recognizing and responding to depression and suicidal ideation, understanding self-harm and how to be safe from bullies.

The Shalom United Church of Christ Mission Social Action and Adult Ed committees are offering the presentation.
