Boys basketball: Connell earns No. 2 seed to district tournament

Connell 47, Wahluke 39: The Eagles secured the No. 2 seed to the SCAC district playoffs beginning Tuesday after ending their regular season with a road win in Mattawa.

Gage Taylor had 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead Connell, which led 13-5 after the first quarter and held a comfortable cushion throughout.

Oscar Onofre led the Warriors with nine points.

Columbia (Burbank) 40, River View 36: Chris Ryckman scored 17 points to lead all scorers and lift the Coyotes to an SCAC East win over their arch rival in the regular-season finale on Saturday.

Burbank had already clinched the No. 1 seed and will play host to Highland on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

River View will be the No. 3 seed and will face the La Salle/Naches Valley winner from Saturday night.

Ronnie Cooper led the Panthers with eight points.

Kiona-Benton 64, Royal 50: The Bears clinched the No. 4 spot to the SCAC district tournament with a win over the Knights in the regular-season finale.

Raymond Torres and Darrell Wheeler combined for 33 points for Ki-Be, which will travel to Zillah — the SCAC West top seed — at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“We faced them in the second game of the year (an 80-45 road loss). They’re a very good team,” Bears coach Dennis Janikowski said. “It’ll be a challenge.”

Riley Leffler led Royal with 19 points.
