Connell man sentenced leading police on 15-mile chase, reaching 100 mph

Walla Walla Union-BulletinFebruary 6, 2014

— A Connell man has been sentenced for leading law enforcement on a 15-mile vehicle chase in the Walla Walla area in August.

Seth J. Klindworth, 27, was ordered this week to serve 45 days in the Walla Walla County jail, with credit for 37 days he’d already served.

He also must pay a total of $1,739 in court costs and fees.

Klindworth could have been handed up to a 90-day sentence, but Superior Court Judge John Lohrmann went along with a prosecution recommendation included in a plea agreement.

In addition, a companion charge of driving under the influence was dropped.

Klindworth pleaded guilty Monday to the charge of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle.

Officials said the Aug. 6 pursuit on Highway 12 began when a Washington State Patrol trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle Klindworth was driving.

After reaching speeds of about 100 mph, traveling into oncoming lanes and two near-collisions, Klindworth’s vehicle went off the roadway, through a ditch and into a wheat field about 14 miles east of Walla Walla, according to a WSP report filed in court.

Klindworth ran toward an adjacent home, where he was challenged by the homeowner to stop and was taken into custody by the trooper.

While Klindworth was on pretrial release to stay at the Christian Aid Center, he committed an assault in Franklin County and was sentenced there to four months in jail.

He was transferred to the Walla Walla County jail last month to await disposition of the eluding case.
