Girls basketball: Chiawana wins fifth consecutive league title

Chiawana 68, Hanford 54: Braydey Hodgins scored 16 points to lead the Riverhawks to a Mid-Columbia Conference home victory and the league title Saturday.

Combined with Walla Walla’s loss to Kamiakin, the Riverhawks won the outright league title with their victory. Hanford led 30-24 at halftime, before the Riverhawks made adjustments and rolled in the second half.

The title is the fifth consecutive for the Pasco school, which will host the Class 4A District 5 tournament in two weeks.

Richland 69, Southridge 46: Kennedy Corrigan scored 19 points and dished out four assists, and Kamri Von Oelhoffen had 19 points and six rebounds as the Bombers picked up a Mid-Columbia Conference home victory.

Nicole Edwards’ 13 points and six rebounds led the Suns.

Connell 41, Kiona-Benton 37: Kylie Booker scored a game-high 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked six shots as the visiting Eagles held off the Bears in a key SCAC East showdown.

With the victory, there is a three-way tie atop the SCAC East standings, with Columbia-Burbank, Connell and Kiona-Benton each at 8-2.

The win combined with Connell’s win over Kiona-Benton puts Burbank into a three-way tie atop the SCAC East standings with two games to play.
