CBC women win 12th consecutive game

February 1, 2014

The Columbia Basin College women’s basketball team won its 12th consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, rolling past host Blue Mountain by an 84-68 score in NWAACC East play.

The Hawks (18-3 overall, 8-0 NWAACC East) were led by Kamiakin High graduate Courtney Nelson, who was 8-for-11 from the floor and 8-for-9 from the free-throw line to score 24 points and grab 10 rebounds.

Sydney Mercer added 22 points, while Sierra Higheagle had 14.

Blue Mountain (16-5, 5-3) was led by Mar’Shay Moore’s 25 points, but that was better than the last time these teams met, when Moore went off for

41 points in an 87-83 loss to CBC in Pasco.

“We really came together defensively, rebounded and shot well from the free-throw line,” said CBC coach Cheryl Holden. “It was a big win for us.”
