West Richland school evacuated after electrical panel short

Tri-City HeraldJanuary 30, 2014

A short in an electrical panel caused staff at William R. Wiley Elementary School in West Richland to be evacuated from the building Wednesday afternoon.

Classes already were out for the day, though teachers and students participating in after-school clubs were still on the grounds, a release said. Staff noticed a burning smell and contacted authorities before leaving the building.

West Richland firefighters and police were called and made sure the short was extinguished. Teachers and students were allowed back inside within 30 minutes.
