HAPO to be sponsor of air show, hydro races

By the Herald staffJanuary 30, 2014

HAPO Community Credit Union will be the title sponsor of the Columbia Cup hydroplane races and the Over the River Air Show this year.

The credit union has been the sponsor of the air show since 2008, said Kathy Powell, event director for Tri-City Water Follies.

"HAPO has been interested in assuming sponsorship of the races for some time and when ConAgra did not renew, they stepped up," she said.

Powell said everyone involved in Water Follies is excited and happy to have HAPO on board.

About 1,200 volunteers work throughout the year to plan the summertime event, which is July 25-27 this year.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to have such a tremendous impact to the summer fun in our community," said Steve Anderson, HAPO executive vice president and chief operations officer, in a statement.

In addition to the Columbia Cup and air show, HAPO also sponsors Cool Desert Nights, the Fourth of July fireworks over the Columbia River, the Grand Old Fourth of July Parade in Pasco and the Live at Five concert series in Richland.
