Letter: Voter wants more levy details

January 27, 2014

Having seen little details on the Kennewick school proposition, the ballot arrival raised some eyebrows. The levy rate is estimated at $3.45 per $1000 of assessed value. For homes valued at $150,000 that is a $517 bill, for $200,000 the bill is $690, for $300,000 the bill is $1,035 and for $400,000 the bill is $1.380.

The levy does indicate it is replacing an expiring levy, but no details of what that current levy rate is.

I think the Kennewick School District needs to get more detailed information out to the voters than just a few signs around the neighborhood.

KEN HAHN, Kennewick

w Editor's note: The levy rate in the Kennewick School District is $3.48 per $1,000 this year, so if voters approve the replacement levy, the rate is expected to decrease slightly -- by $6 on a $200,000 home. More information is available at www.ksd.org.
