Boys basketball: Hot shooting lifts Chiawana over Kennewick

Chiawana hit 12 3-pointers and used a big second quarter to knock off Kennewick 79-70 on Friday in a Mid-Columbia Conference game in the Lions Den.

Deion Singleton and Victor Koval each scored 23 points to lead the Riverhawks.

“Both teams shot the ball from deep well,” Kennewick coach Brayden Leyde said. “They were able to hit some tough, contested shots and they provided a big inside presence. They did a really nice job on the offensive boards and Singleton played extremely well.”

Mitchel Mueller had a game-high 28 for the the Lions, who were outscored 23-9 in the second quarter to let an eight-point lead get away.

Richland 90, Hanford 47: Payton Radliff hit five 3-pointers, Nathan Streufert and Jacob DeVries each had 22 points, and the visiting Bombers scored 40 points in the second quarter to roll to a Mid-Columbia Conference victory over the Falcons.

“They are obviously a very, very good team this year,” Hanford coach Paul Mayer said. “They turned us over a bunch in the second quarter and the game got away from us.”

Hanford finished with 24 turnovers to just 12 for Richland. Kendall Watson’s 16 points led the Falcons.

Walla Walla 63, Pasco 24: Andrew Gogl’s 13 points led the Blue Devils to an easy Mid-Columbia Conference road victory over the Bulldogs.

Dylan Steele led Walla Walla with five assists, as they had 22 on 27 baskets for the game.

Isaiah Groce’s seven led Pasco.

Ellensburg 63, Grandview 61: Isaiah Gonzales scored 21 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Greyhounds dropped a CWAC home game to the Bulldogs.

Grandview hit a 3-pointer to pull within 62-61 and then fouled Ellensburg with 1.5 seconds left. The Bulldogs made the first free throw, missed the second, but Grandview’s desperation heave was no good.

“They did a great job of shooting in the first half,” River View coach Roger Sonderland said. “We switched our defense and got in their face. Our defense was much better in the second half. We attacked the basket a little better on offense.”
