Young Artists Competition winners announced

Two Tri-City-area students took top honors at the 2014 Young Artists Competition, sponsored by the Mid-Columbia Symphony earlier this month.

Katherine Moon,14, was the junior overall winner and Katharine Zorich, 17, was the senior overall winner. Moon is the daughter of Hoju and Okran Moon of West Richland, and Zorich is the daughter of John and Carmen Zorich of Richland.

The two pianists also won their divisions: Moon for intermediate piano and Zorich for senior piano. They each earned a $250 prize and will perform with the Mid-Columbia Symphony at its spring concert in May.

The other division winners are trumpet, Geoffrey McKay, 18, the son of Bill and Cindy McKay of Richland; primary strings, Jason Zhuang, 10, the son of of Qing Yang of Richland; intermediate strings, Lisa Hu, 12, daughter of Shenyang Hu and Yulan Li of Richland; senior strings, Tobin Castellano, 17, the son of Patrick and Lahni Castellano of Richland; and primary piano, Nathan Hu, 9, the son Shenyang Hu and Yulan Li of Richland.
