Boys basketball roundup: Wa-Hi beats Southridge

Walla Walla jumped out to a 20-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and was never challenged in a 64-43 Mid-Columbia Conference boys basketball home win over Southridge on Tuesday night.

“It was a good all-round effort,” said Wa-Hi coach John Golden. “I thought we got off to a good start and defended and that set the tone.”

Gabe Porter led Wa-Hi (10-5, 6-3) with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Ross Lake added 15 points and Dylan Steele seven assists and five points.

Drevon Thomas had 11 points to lead Southridge.

CHIAWANA 79, MOSES LAKE 64: Dieon Singleton and Wesley Henderson each scored a season-high 22 points to lead the Riverhawks to a nonleague win over Moses Lake in Pasco.

From start to finish, that was our most complete game of the season,” said Chiawana coach Chad Herron. “It was nice to see us bring our shooting hats to the game tonight.”

The Riverhawks led 38-32 at the half, then pulled away with a 22-14 spurt in the third quarter.

Singleton also had eight rebounds, while Aaric Wren and Victor Koval added seven rebounds each, and Brandon Mendoza 11 assists.

Cesar Sandoval led the Chiefs with 16 points and six rebounds.

RIVER VIEW 49, UMATILLA 30: Ronnie Cooper and Dakota Rogers each had 11 points in leading the Panthers to a nonleague win at Umatilla.

The teams were tied at nine at the end of the first quarter, then River View (10-4) went on a 24-12 run over the next two quarters to pull away for good.

Colton 55, Liberty Christian 54: Dalton Patchen scored six points in the final 35 seconds to help the visiting Wildcats rally past the Patriots in Richland.

Patchen hit a 3-pointer to cut Colton’s deficit to two and after a missed free throw by Liberty Christian, Patchen recorded a three-point play with 1.8 seconds left for the win.

Patchen, a 6-foot-7 post, had 36 points on the night.
