— A group of teens are responsible for a recent spree of burglaries and car prowls around Benton County, authorities said Tuesday.

For the last two weeks Benton County has experienced a significant increase in crime, including break-ins, thefts and prowls, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

Both the sheriff’s office and Kennewick police have been working together to track down suspects.

Authorities have arrested five teens this week in connection with the crime spree, Lt. Chuck Jones said. Tristan D. Landry, 18, and four 16-year-olds were arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft charges. All the suspects are males.

Authorities said the teens are responsible for at least 25 car break-ins and eight burglaries, including one at In-Step Baptist Church in Finley. The church was vandalized on Jan. 14 and multiple items, including electric guitars, were stolen.

The teens are also responsible for a series of car prowls in Kennewick over the weekend, authorities said. At least 30 cars were broken into between South Dayton and South Fruitland Street.

The teens are responsible for a lot more crimes around Benton County, Jones said. The investigation is ongoing.

Authorities found large quantities of stolen property after serving three search warrants, Jones said. They are asking for the public’s help to identify some of the stolen property.

Anyone who has been a victim of a property crime in the last three weeks is asked to call the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at 735-6555.
