Zapien leads CBC men over Yakima Valley

Mitchell Zapien came off the bench to score 24 points, and Steven Walter added 16, as host Columbia Basin beat visiting Yakima Valley 93-86 in an NWAACC East Region game.

The Hawks, now 3-1 in East Region play, shot 8-for-21 from the 3-point line while YVC was just 1-for-13.

The Hawks’ bench outscored YVC’s 46-22, led by Zapien.

Kamiakin graduate Courtney Nelson scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Hawks, while Shannon Bland had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.

The Hawks — which is 4-0 in East Region play — forced 25 YVC turnovers, turning them into 33 points.
