Fast Focus: 'What would you like to see state lawmakers accomplish this session?' Almost independent

January 19, 2014

I strongly disagree with Gov. Inslee's proposed budget that favors spending money upgrading and improving institutions rather than allowing those dollars to help the 14,000 people with disabilities who still have no services, and helping those of us who have services become more independent. I do believe that independence should be encouraged so it will be more cost effective for your tax dollars. I am able to do nearly everything myself. If I lived in an institution, everything would be done for me at a tremendous cost to taxpayers. When we live in the community, the cost is much less and we can be a contributing members of society.
