Letter Best: Dangerous hypocrisy

January 19, 2014

The hypocrisy of it all. According to the Jan. 12 Herald, a medical marijuana store owner stuffed $51,000 in cash in his car, and using cloak and dagger methods to avoid being robbed, or worse, took the money to the Washington state Department of Revenue, where he received a receipt from a presumably happy agent welcoming the hefty cash infusion into the state coffers.

Yet, because of federal restrictions on banks handling drug money, no safeguards are in place by the state offering a safe place for all this cash floating around from these businesses that have been awarded legal status by the state.
