Fast Focus: 'What would you like to see state lawmakers accomplish this session?' Life worth living

January 19, 2014

I'm puzzled why Gov. Inslee would support people with disabilities living in institutions. This is how it appears with the proposed budget recently released. Institutions are nothing more than warehouses where people just sit and become more disabled than when they went in.

People in institutions aren't able to get out into the community -- no job, no movies, no dinners out, no dances, no conversations with friends. I love living on my own, in my community. I am married, I drive my own car, I am independent. If I had been sent to an institution, where would I be today?
