Fast Focus: 'What would you like to see state lawmakers accomplish this session?' Don't institutionalize

January 19, 2014

I strongly oppose institutional living for people with disabilities. Those living in institutions are not allowed to leave to be with their families for Christmas, their birthday or any other special day. There is, of course, no opportunity to have a job or for any life at all. It's zero living. Living in our communities a person can have freedom to get a job, go to dances, get married, go on trips -- the same as anyone else.
