Letter: Opposing views valued

January 16, 2014

Regarding the Jan. 14 letter, "Why did column run?" by Andrew Hesser.

I think if you want to be preached to with the side of the argument you want to hear, then you are in the choir and are probably lost. The whole point of opinion pages is to represent disagreeing points of view to be discussed and, I hope, researched as to their validity.

People should question the so-called facts stated by either side and actually verify that they are valid, not just something that they want to hear. Liberals and conservatives need do some scientifically valid research and find the facts. It's easy to find people who agree with your opinion. It's much harder to find the truth. Anyone who isn't constantly evaluating what is true or false, right or wrong, is lost. Times change. The world changes. The world moves on. People must constantly re-evaluate their situation and one way of doing that is by hearing from those who disagree with you.
