Awards and Achievements for Jan. 12

-- The Morrow County Cultural Coalition, partnered with Oregon's Cultural Trust Foundation, has announced grant recipients for projects conducted in Morrow County schools and communities in 2014. The total amount given was $6,871.

The coalition has selected the Windy River Writing Festival, Oregon Trail Library District (which includes Irrigon, Boardman, Heppner) historical books, Irrigon and Boardman Junior and Senior Highs' artists in residence, Sam Boardman and Windy Rivers Schools' rhythm instruments and the Morrow County Historical Society Chronicles, as well as the Hamstead Stage Company.

-- Bryan Fang, seventh-grader at Carmichael Middle School, earned a trophy for third place in the algebra division of the Washington State Math Masters competition in Moses Lake. Fang, as well as Connar Gibbon, Christopher Kang and Michelle Weng earned fourth place in the team competition, the elite division.
