West Richland councilman named mayor pro tem again

Tri-City HeraldJanuary 8, 2014

The West Richland City Council re-appointed Councilman Rich Buel as mayor pro tem.

Buel was re-elected to the council during the November general election and will serve through December 2017.

Unlike other cities in the Tri-City area, West Richland has a "strong mayor" form of government so the mayor is elected by the citizens. Former Councilman Brent Gerry was elected mayor in November for a four-year term.

The mayor is the chief executive and administrative officer of the city. The mayor also presides over the council meetings. Buel will serve as mayor in his absence.
