Sleepy driver causes Clearwater head-on collision in Kennewick

Mary Burkhead, 53, Kennewick, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel of her 1991 Oldsmobile Ninety-eight about 8:45 Wednesday morning and missed a red light at West Clearwater Avenue and North Kellogg Street in Kennewick. She collided head on with a 2005 Honda Accord driven by Georgia Nichols, 64, Kennewick, said Kennewick police. No one was seriously hurt. Burkhead was cited for having no insurance and negligent driving.

— A Kennewick woman caused a head-on collision on Clearwater Avenue on Wednesday morning after she reported fell asleep at the wheel.

Mary Burkhead, 53, Kennewick, was driving a 1991 Oldsmobile Ninety-eight west on Clearwater about 8:45 when she missed a red light at North Kellogg Street in Kennewick, said Kennewick Officer Mike Bowe.

She collided head on with a 2005 Honda Accord driven by Georgia Nichols, 64, Kennewick.

She was cited for having no insurance and for second-degree negligent driving. No one was seriously injured.
